I took my self to Ulan Ude a couple of years ago and had a look at Paleolithic rock art just off the road to Mongolia and not far from the city its self.I also met many academics from the Buryiat Institute. I have always wanted to go to the sanctuary in the district of Primorye ( I think that's the spelling) district to see the Siberian Tiger. I have seen the zoo well ethnographic museum and exhibits with caged animals which would be destined for fur coats,just out of Ulan Ude.They are rough on their animals especially the caged bears. I felt very sorry for them.I photographed them all. Where I went I did not feel unsafe as I had a bit of the language and could read my way around the place and organised myself before I left.

My name is Jarret Towns and at the moment I am in the process of getting permission to build a small private zoo to educate the public about the plight of the world's big felines, with my focus being on tigers and lions. One problem I have is not being able to find experienced staff to volunteer to work closely with my tigers. I would like to volunteer as the cats head keeper, but being only seventeen I have very little experience, one month with adults at Taronga Park Zoo, Sydney. I am writing to see if you may be able to put me in touch with Victor Yudin as I would like to volunteer for three to six months working with his animals. I would not like a wage for my services, just a nice meal and somewhere to sleep. I believe this will earn me the necessary experience for me to volunteer as tiger keeper.
